#83 · Axis

An axis is a fixed reference line, calculated rather than built — Earth's own axis is exactly this: an imaginary line through the poles, and every day length, every season, every point of latitude is measured against it.

The reference point does the real work. Everything else takes its position from how far it falls from that line, however solid or physical it looks by comparison.

This ring is built on the same structure. The sapphire is set on point, turned to a diamond orientation against the band's horizontal line, braced by four prongs that fix it in place like a structural crosspoint. From there, the baguettes step outward in matched pairs on both sides, each one set at the same measured distance from center.

Called Axis, the ring works the way a real axis does: one still reference point, with everything else defined by its exact position relative to it.

The Composition:

• central sapphire: light blue colour, natural, untreated, square cut, 0.5 ct, 4.7 mm
• diamonds: lab grown, VS clarity, G colour, 0.21 ct total. 
• accent sapphires: princess cut, natural, dark blue colour, 0.23 ct
