#235 · Hecate

At the point where three roads met, the Greeks placed a statue of Hecate facing all three ways simultaneously — one figure claiming every direction rather than picking a single path. Travelers left offerings there each new moon, asking to be seen on their way rather than steered onto someone else's.

Myth remembers her as the goddess of witchcraft and shadow, someone you'd rather not meet after dark. We read it differently: she's the one figure who never gets disoriented at a junction. Everyone else has to choose a direction. She already occupies all of them.

The old statues carry twin torches and three faces, each turned outward toward a different road. She isn't stationed at one crossing point among many — she's built to watch every route leaving it at once.

This Hecate ring holds the same structure. One center, paths breaking outward in every direction — up, down, and diagonally to both sides — each one lit on its own terms. It's the junction itself, held together at the exact point where every direction starts.
