Atlas collection
Product details
Atlas carries two real meanings that turn out to describe the same structural idea. In Greek myth, he's condemned to hold up the sky on his shoulders. In human anatomy, the atlas is the literal name of the topmost vertebra — the one that holds up the skull. Unlike every other vertebra, it isn't a solid block; it's shaped as a ring, built that way specifically so it can cradle and rotate the weight resting on it.
What both versions share is the same idea: the part doing the real work is rarely the part you see. The skull gets noticed. The sky gets admired. The structure underneath, holding everything steady, stays out of view.
Turn this ring on its side and that structure becomes visible — a fanned, ribbed gallery beneath the setting, doing the actual work of holding the central gemstone in place, unseen when the ring is worn face-up. The stone reads as the visible weight; this architecture underneath is the atlas supporting it.
Called Atlas, the ring holds onto that same relationship: the oval gemstone catching the eye from above, and a precise, load-bearing structure beneath it doing the work that makes that view possible.
The Composition:
- central gemstone: natural London blue topaz, 8x6 mm, 1.3 ct
- accent gemstones: lab alexandrites, natural salt & pepper diamonds
