Cygnus collection
Product details
Cygnus is one of the most recognizable shapes in the northern sky — a swan in full flight, wings spread wide along the path of the Milky Way, its neck stretched forward. For centuries, that was the whole story: an elegant shape crossing the sky.
Then, in 1964, astronomers pointed an X-ray detector at the same patch of sky and found something the swan's outline never suggested — Cygnus X-1, one of the first objects ever confirmed to be a black hole, sitting inside that graceful wingspan like a hidden density nothing about the shape gives away.
No one saw it directly. It was found by watching a visible companion star wobble and lose material to something unseen, its light stretched and heated as it fell in — proof of something invisible, sitting exactly where the swan's wing spreads widest.
This ring holds the same contrast: a wide, open spread of stones on either side, and at the center, a single stone catching and throwing light in every direction, warm and compact, all its intensity gathered into one small point.
